On Jan. 6, this Friday, the Arkansas Razorbacks football team will meet the Kansas State Wildcats in the Cotton Bowl. It’s a big game for the state of Arkansas, and we’re hoping the Razorbacks come out with a big win.
It’s only the second time in the Bowl Championship Series era that a bowl that isn’t part of the BCS has teams with better BCS rankings than teams in a BCS bowl. So, the Cotton Bowl isn’t a BCS bowl? I thought the Cotton Bowl was a big deal.
There sure are a lot of bowls to keep up with
I don’t completely understand the bowl system. I also don’t understand why there are so many bowls these days. When I was a kid, you had your Rose Bowl, your Orange Bowl, your Cotton Bowl, your Gator Bowl and a few others.
Now there are all kinds of bowls, and a lot of them have weird names. The Meineke Car Care Bowl?
???
Bowls used to honor roses, oranges, cotton and alligators - things that mean something to America. Now we have a bowl that honors a car care company.
Or what about the Chic-fil-A Bowl. That sounds like a menu item. I can just see a player in that bowl this year when he’s talking to his grandson 50 years from now. He’ll go, “Sonny, when I was a young man, I had the proud honor to represent my school’s football team in the Chic-fil-A Bowl,” and the kid’s going to be like, “Huh?”
At least our Razorbacks got into a long-time traditional bowl, the Cotton Bowl. It wouldn’t be the same rooting and cheering for them if they were playing in the Acme Porta-Potty Bowl.
Go Razorbacks! (We’d cheer no matter what bowl they were in.)
