Take a hike on New Year’s Day

To promote the benefits of Arkansas’ state parks, 14 hikes are getting planned for New Year’s Day 2012.  You can go 4029tv.com to see what parks are having the hikes.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that this is the first year the Arkansas parks system is offering hikes.  Parks in other states have done it in recent years.

We have some outstanding state parks in Arkansas.  They’re a treasure we sometimes take for granted, but it’s to our advantage if we utilize them often.

4029tv says the hikes are “part of a national effort to advocate for the healthful and economic benefits provided by state parks.”

There’s a lot to do at our state parks

Hiking is a great exercise and great for your body.  So go for a fun hike on Jan. 1.  And do some mountain biking on another day.  And swimming and kayaking and jogging and whatever else you can think of to do at a state park.

Our local state park is Lake Fort Smith State Park.  You can go to the park’s website and see what all there is to do there.

It’s great to live in Arkansas.  We appreciate our state parks.
