Fort Smith police officer bit by a drunk man

We thought we’d heard about all the crazy news there is, but this is another one.  This time, a man had a seizure at the Kelley Highway Walmart on June 7 and then he became violent, a story on 5NewsOnline said.

People told a reporter from 5NewsOnline that the man, whose name is Jason Marshall, was drunk and he started jumping around and scaring customers.  So the police were called, and they tried to arrest Marshall, and he started biting at them.

One of the cops was bit bad enough to draw blood.  Finally they used a taser gun and put an end to the problem.

The thing I don’t understand about some of these weird arrests is, why do the suspects try to resist arrest?  Do these people actually think they can avoid it – especially like in Marshall’s case where your only weapon is your teeth?

Of course, Marshall was drunk, so that didn’t help his judgment capacity, I’m sure.  But still.  In this day and age of hyped up security and police officers having every type of weapon of mass destruction on their belts, it’s definitely best to do what they say.

If I ever was arrested (I never will be, but I’m just making a point), I would do EXACTLY what the officer said – unless it was a clear violation of my rights, which I doubt it would be, because as a rule police know the law and aren’t trying to violate anybody.

Nick and I are proud of the men and women who are part of the Fort Smith Police Department and totally support their efforts to keep Fort Smith as safe as possible.  They’re here to protect all citizens, and I’m sure they’d rather go to a scene and not have to get into a fight.  But they WILL fight if they have to, and usually the fight doesn’t last long.

Thank you, Fort Smith police.  We’d be in a lot of trouble without you.
